Nutley A'la Carte Kitchen Tour 2007

103 Chestnut Street

219 Satterthwaite Avenue

Owners are Barry and Sally Maurillo, owners of Nanina's in the Park Catering Hall.

Their home was rebuilt from bottom to top about a year ago by Timpanaro   Construction Co.   However, most of the kitchen

was left intact when bought from the previous owners. The Maurillo's added new granite countertops and wood flooring. While this kitchen itself is smaller in size, the Maurillo's really wanted space for entertaining and decided to expand the great room leading outside the kitchen. They added vaulted ceilings, french doors to the backyard and a beautiful custom-made wood bar where guests can relax and have a drink.

54 Nutley Avenue

When Fred and Janice Fede bought their colonial home 11 years ago, it was in need of great repair.   Their home, which was built in the 1940's, had not been maintained.   Over time, the Fede's restored most of the home and made renovations and upgrades throughout.   The kitchen, however, was extremely small.   Since they both love to cook and often entertain, they decided to redesign the kitchen and build a larger space.   Now, their kitchen is the focal point of the first floor.   The space is large enough for people to gather in the kitchen or step down into the family room and continue their conversations.

203 Satterthwaite Avenue

The Grillo's purchased 203 Satterthwaite Avenue in 1981. Their home is one of the originally built on Satterthwaite at least 100 years ago. Last year, the Grillo's renovated their kitchen in a country style. Designed by Empire Construction, the kitchen creates a warm, comfortable and cozy environment for the family to enjoy while providing the cook with a very functional kitchen. The kitchen is enhanced by the cabinets purchased from the Merit Corporation, in Belleville.

199 Rutgers Place

Jay and Donna Piro bought 199 Rutgers Place three and half years ago. In 2006, the Piro's renovated the home and added a large 20 x 40 ft addition. The homeowner, Jay Piro created the kitchen's design and acted as the General Contractor of this project. The Piro's penchant for entertaining family led to a spacious design with an open atmosphere. The kitchen is outfitted with cabinets and countertops Kitchens By Turano. The Piro's chose Sub-Zero appliances to complete the kitchen.

One of the most unique attractions of their kitchen is the view from their yard of an extravagant garden maintained by their neighbor. This beautiful garden has been photographed and featured in Home and Garden magazine several times and is actually the main reason why Jay and Donna Piro bought their home.

180 Satterthwaite Avenue

One of the oldest and largest homes in Nutley, this expansive 9 bedroom home was built in the 1800's. When purchased by the current owners, Lou and Wanda Malfitano, they undertook an enormous and difficult renovation project with beautiful results. Lou Malfitano, owner of Empire Construction, acted as the General Contractor on the project.

Where the kitchen is placed now, there were 6 different rooms that were combined into one, creating a large airy space suitable for entertaining. The Malfitano's accented the kitchen with Cherry Cabinets washed with a Chocolate glaze purchased at the Merit Corporation. Granite countertops lend an air of elegance to the kitchen and amenities such as heated tile flooring and a wet bar round out this beautiful and functional kitchen. The homeowners also installed beautiful french doors leading to their patio.

160 Satterthwaite Avenue

The home itself was built in the 1890's by William Sargent, great grandfather to Jackelyn Kennedy. When the home was bought 4 years ago by it's current owners Mike and Lisa Martin, the home including its kitchen was in need of major renovations. Mike and Lisa used John Hugin of Nutley for their framing and structural work and Bob Kirwin of East Brunswick for all the cabinetry work.

Their design includes Maple Cabinets, Granite Counters, Linoleum floors (practical for the children of the house) with inlaid replica wood designs and stainless steel appliances complete with a double oven for big family get togethers.
